Back in November, I sent the following message to this list. I saw no
follow-up at that time.

Tried it on seeing your message. Usually, I don't do much with
floppies, and then usually with pre-formatted ones. Having the same
problem. Here is another data point.

I have basically the same system, but not refurb and came preloaded
with Win2K Pro. I have made it a dual-boot system with Red Hat 7.1. I
know that I have formatted floppies under Win2K without incident.

Seems to me that I created the boot floppy in the RH 7.1 install
without issue. Maybe it detected that I was already using an empty
formatted floppy, and bypassed that step?
I logged in as an ordinary user using Gnome. I right-clicked the
floppy icon and chose to Format. Trying either DOS or ext2 format on
the appropriate size for the fresh-out-of-the-box Sony HD floppy, I
got verify errors at cylinder 39.
This would certainly put a crimp in my goal to migrate to Linux as my
primary environment. But, I'm sure someone has the answer, or will
soon!
Ron.
