Once the drive geometry of the IDE hard disk in my desktop computer was
garbled. It also hangs in the BIOS. Unplugging the hard disk and
disabling the IDE hard disk detection in the BIOS helped but I suspect
this isn't possible in the ThinkPad BIOS. Can you remove the hard disk
and test if your TP boots a bootable CDROM or floppy?
