That is correct. You have the Xircom/Intel manufactured mini-pci card that
contains the Lucent/Agere SoftModem chipset. I was confused too, when I
first started trying to sort all this out!

I haven't looked at Mandrake at all, but the ltmodem part is certainly
correct. However, you said "Mandrake 8.2 uses kernel 2.4.28", which I hope
is a type-o, because the above package is for 2.4.18, and probably wouldn't
work on a 2.4.28 kernel.
If in doubt, the ltmodem website is here: http://www.heby.de/ltmodem, and
they have some contributed packages for Mandrake.
