Here is another reference Quick Boot - Disable
I've been the owner of two TP 600s. Installing a linux distro in my first TP
was fairly trivial--I only ran into the trivial problem of having to manually
edit the XF86Config file in order to get 1024x768 @ 16 bpp. The sound was
easily configured using /sbin/sndconfig (in case you want to use the OSS
drivers). The ALSA project also supports the CS4237B chipset through its snd-
cs4236 or snd-cs4232 drivers.

However, getting the sound to work on my second laptop was especially hard. At
first I thought the problem was based on how my hardware resources were
allocated. So I tried a whole bunch of different combinations of IRQ's, IO
addresses, DMA's, etc, but that didn't work. Since I thought it was strange
that none of those combinations were being detected at boot-time, I decided to
google my way into finding "hardware allocation at boot-time in linux" and was
lucky enough to stumble into a page (I forget which one) that proved to be the
key to solving my problem. Basically, you must disable Quick Boot in the BIOS
(this is done through the BIOS interface by pressing F1 as the computer starts
up; it is not done through PS2).

Thankfully, this solved part of the problem--my resources were being allocated
by the kernel. However, I still had to notify the OS of where the sound card
was allocated. So I ran /sbin/sndconfig. For some reason, the CS423x driver did
not work for me. Instead, I had to select the SBAwe32 driver, although I had to
flip my DMA channels around in order to get it to work.
