Ok - make sure you have the CS4232 PNP OSS sound module built from the
kernel. Be sure it is a module, and NOT built into the kernel - because it
is easier to configure this way in my opinion. Once you are sure this is
done add the following to /etc/modules.conf
alias sound-slot-0 cs4232
alias char-major-14 cs4232
alias synth opl3
post-install cs4232 /sbin/modprobe "-k" "adlib_card" "ad1848" "uart401"
options -k cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0
options adlib_card io=0x388
then also make sure you have a mixer installed - like aumix. Load aumix and
bring all the volume controls to 100%. If it says unable to find mixer
device - then the sound drivers are not loading correctly.
It took me a month to get mine figured out - as the 600 series is not easy
to config sound on, but once you figure it out, it's pretty easy to
remember.
