The problem with that is if you install another OS after linux, it wipes
the MBR and you have to boot from a rescue disk, mount your /boot or /
filesystem, chroot into it and run lilo.
However if you put it in the partition boot sector you don't, you just use
any fdisk program to change the active partion. The other advantage is you
can fdisk the system if you ever send it to tech support, "hiding" linux
aways a good thing when dealing with tech support drones.
