Step one: go to the IBM site and download the system configuration
tool. The tpctl utilities are good, but I don't think they can do
everything the configuration tools can do. I recommend a small dos
partition (see later for how big) that includes the dos version of the
utility - that way you can boot up, configure your bios and then
reboot into linux. The URL for the drivers on IBM's site is:
http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/DSHY-3PGT93.html?lang=en_US&page=brand&brand=IBM+ThinkPad&doctype=&subtype=Cat
Step two: configure the bit about suspend on lid closing.
Step three: use the command "ps2 hfile c:" (or something similar) to
create your hybernation file. (Do "ps2 ? hfile" to get help. Do
"ps2 ?" to get generalized help.) The hfile command will create a
hybernation file approximately the size of your system RAM - hence the
need for an appropriately sized dos partition.
Of course, if you have another MS OS installed there are other hfile
choices, but that should get you going if you're like me and resent
the whole MS thing. :)

My pleasure.
