There are several references to thinkpad problem workarounds in
the PCMCIA-HOWTO which is in
/usr/share/doc/kernel-pcmcia-cs-3.1.27 on my redhat 7.3 system.

In the past I've found that various tp600 and 600e problems were
solved by one or other of these.
