After upgrading to the latest "irda-utils-0.9.8" and some minor
tweaking with the rc.d scripts, it works here too - Palm3 does
sync with TP-600E using IRCOMM over IR.

Also, it didn't work when I had IR as COM2, but it works now 
when I've made IR COM1. [No, internal modem shouldn't be the
cause, because it's been long and securely disabled.]

One other thing I've noticed - the IR comm's seem to be very
slow, even though I've set both serial and IR to 115200 bps.
