Hi Mitch,
I have RedHat 8.0 installed on my A31p and it does work fine. I had RH 7.3 =
installed before but I didn't try to upgrade since gcc has changed in 8.0. =
I installed RH 8.0 from scratch and it automatically detects the graphics=20
adapter (ATI FireGL 7800). There are some smaller problems with KDE 3.0.3=20
shipped with RedHat but it does work in general. I recommend to upgrade to =
KDE 3.0.4,
Andreas Rudnik

Subject: [ltp] KDE doesn't update on RedHat 8.0
=20
Hi,
=20
I have a IBM A31p running RedHat 7.3 and KDE works OK. I tried to update=20
to 8.0 and the KDE gives me an error screen
That states: "couldn't start kdeinit check installation" In the first try =
I did add some other packages, so I thought there might be a conflict also =
when 8.0
Starts it saw my firewire and I enabled it. Since that system did not=20
work I regenerated my system ( I have a second disk drive that I cloned so =
if the update=20
Does not work I can recover completely). I just updated the existing=20
packages only and did no t enable the firewire. The same message was=20
displayed. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what is the=20
solution. Does the 8.0 install work with KDE from scratch. One more thing, =
I got the A31p about one week after the first release, the graphics board=20
was not supported fully so I enabled it as a Vesa card. Is it possible=20
that there is a problem with that. Also, how do I switch to the current=20
Xfree86 setup for the A31p graphics board.
=20
Thanks Mitch
