Even better, use a distro designed for the task, and don't use a hard
drive at all. For example LEAF or LRP: http://lrp.steinkuehler.net/
Loads from floppy, runs from ram, no need to worry about spin ups/downs,
flushes or recovery. Once set up, a system can run without any writeable
media, a real plus for a security appliance, such as a firewall.
