I've noticed that older (PII/300) Thinkpad processor cards are running
fairly cheap on Ebay these days ($20-$30-ish). I've got a Thinkpad
600 (no E or X) with a 266 MHz PII, and was wondering if it was possible
to just replace the 266 MHz card with one of these 300 MHz (FRU
#10L1230) cards. Taking the machine apart doesn't intimidate me, but if
it won't work I don't want to waste my time.
So, has anyone on the list tried swapping processor cards in a 600?
Is it painless, or did your Thinkpad explode - requiring you
to go to the hospital to have little bits of ultrabay removed from your
face? :)
I'm contemplating upgrading to Redhat 8, and I think every little bit of
speed will help!
Thanks,
-CT
