Isn't the "serial port 1" displayed in that listing really the internal
modem?  I know on my Thinkpad 600 (no X), that the serial port by
default is set to Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4, while the internal (mwave) modem
sits on IRQ 3.

Are your IR ports DISabled?  On my 600, I couldn't have IR and both modem
ports enabled at once - at least not if I wanted to ever use a PCMCIA
card and/or the sound.

By the way, if you have PS2, you can check the status of IRQs, etc.  Just
type PS2 ? for a list of commands.
