My laptop gets 2 hours, and with most movies being less than two
hours, especially if you're willing to fast forward through credits,
you should be fine. However, if you were planning to watch DVDs while
flying, you should be aware most airlines take exception to the use of
CD/DVD-players at any time. (Like cellphones.)

(And the MPAA would like you to think there is no legitimate use for
DVD-ripping software...)

Except for not running anything uncessary and setting the most
aggressive power-save mode, the only thing you can do is to turn the
backlight way down. The difference between low and high is easily
15-20 minutes on my machine.
