Correct - this would make sense if you would mount the card in read-only
mode. However, most people would want to copy off photos and then delete
them from the card. From experience in the past, writing to the card
causes some extra attributes and other information to be written to the
card in vfat/FAT32 mode, and (at least with Kodak cameras and a few
Sonys), this causes some cameras to get totally confused and at least one
(my Kodak DC290 with previous firmware) to report that the card wasn't
formatted.

In this case I agree that vfat makes sense, but if the *only* purpose for
the card is for use with cameras, why take chances? Those cameras *all*
use the msdos format natively, and will never use long filenames or the
extra attributes.

isn't very active, but it sure is useful.
