I saw some posts in the archives (http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/pipermail/linux-thinkpad/2003-February/010346.html) that indicated that setpnp can be used to eliminate the error I've got, in setting up the serial port on a 600E.
The error is:
anas:~# tpctl --rs1=IRQ4 -rs1=0x3f8 --rs1=enable
resource state: ioaddr irq# able? mode/power
serial port 1: 0x3f8 IRQ4 enable (error)
I also saw another Thinkpad 600E HOWTO that recommended using setpnp (http://panopticon.csustan.edu/thood/tp600lnx.htm).
However, I can't figure out what the "PNP ID" is that is mentioned in the setpnp instructions, and therefore can't use setpnp. lspnp doesn't work, because I'm using a 2.4 kernel, so there's no "proc/bus/pnp" as is expected by lspnp. It seems that setpnp/lspnp has been deprecated in favour of isa-pnp.
I tried getting this mysterious ID out of /proc/isapnp, but, there's no such file my 600E, even after modprobe'ing isa-pnp, which usually indicates that there are no ISA PNP devices in the system! So for some reason the kernel is not seeing any of the 600E's "PNP" devices.
Something is Not Right(tm). At this point I decide to give up and ask the list. I'm not using PS2.EXE, because I don't have DOS or Windoze on this thing, only Linux partitions and a single FAT32 partition with a hibernate file on it (hmm... will PS2.EXE work under dosemu-freedos? Just wondering...).
Thanks!
