[ltp] T40 trouble resuming

I am running 2.4.21-ac4 on my T40 with apm.  It is having troubles
resuming after a long time in suspend.  

If I suspend it and then reopen it within 20 minutes it is fine.  X
starts backup.  I am using the DRI-RESUME patch for the radeon (I think
I am, not sure how to verify it).  If I let the computer sit for a few
hours in suspend it beeps as if it is coming alive but then just sits
with a blank screen.  I have tried disabling my APM scripts but thtat
does not help.  Does anybody have any ideas?
