Just a quick guess - are you trying to run DHCP to automatically get an 
IP address? If so, and the server isn't connected, you will get a long 
(about 1 minute) timeout during boot. Also try presssing "I" when it 
asks you if you want interactive startup - and say no to things you 
don't really need.
