[ltp] multi-burner recognition

I just ordered a Thinkpad R40 with an Ultra-bay, with a multi-burner(which 
reads/burns both cd's and dvd's), does debian 3.0 r2 support the 
multi-burner, does any distro?  I have been unable to find the answer 
ANYWHERE, any help would be most appreciated.
