I have an SMC2623W card (came in a bundle with an access point under 
the name "EZConnect Wireless Network Kit" but should be available 
separately) which I bought after doing some googling. 

In Mandrake 9.1 and now 9.2 I simply inserted the card and it was 
recognised, installed and worked, no setup required. 

You will probably want to install wireless-tools as well.
