[ltp] Grub graphic boot images

I've been experimenting with replacing the graphic boot image that
displays at power on. Both grub and lilo permit doing this.
The graphic boot image for grub is a gzipped 'xpm' image file in /boot/grub.
It's normally named 'splash.xpm.gz' although this could be changed by messing
with the grub.conf file.
Many of the xpm files installed by default in the system directories, such as
in /usr/share/pixmaps, just don't look very good when used with grub. And
there's a caution here. If the gzipped xpm file is too large, then grub will
freeze up and not boot (have an emergency floppy boot disk ready, just in
case!).
Anyone have any recommendations for a nice graphic boot screen?
