[ltp] Installing linux, fear of lm_sensors

Can I tell RH 8.0 (or some other easy-to-install distro) not to load the
lm_sensors module during installation? Is this necessary? Or, how can I
make sure lm_sensors is not run during install? Is this something the
average newby can accomplish.

I recently bought a used IBM Thinkpad 600 and I would like to load some
flavor of linux on it. But I guess I am somewhat intimidated by the
warnings about killing the machine by running lm_sensors on it. How can I
be certain that lm_sensors does not have its' way with my machine? I am not
wedded to RH linux but it is the distribution I am most familiar with.

The archives seem somewhat ambiguous about precautions during instalation.
Clearly people install linux on thinkpads routinely but I wonder if they
take special precautions.

Any guidence appreciated,

 thanks,
