To replace the LCD screen on a 770 TP, the procedure is as follows.
1) Open the lid to about a 45 degree angle.
2) Remove the three screws retaining screws from the lid. They are in
a row across the very bottom of the lid, covered by black "stick-ons"
(which you can peel off with a knife blade).
3) Remove the bezel from the lid. You will need to *gently* pry it from
the bottom with a knife blade. It may be necessary to depress plastic
tabs on the side of the lid, depending on the 770 model you are
working on.
4) Disconnect the two-wire connector going to the inverter board, at the
bottom right-hand corner.
5) Remove the four retaining screws holding the screen to the tracks.
6) Now, here's the tricky part. Carefully, maneuver the screen downward
and out, avoiding the latches on top of the lid.
7) Disconnect the cable harness going into the top back of the screen.
8) Install the new screen by reversing the above procedure.
Notes:
A) There are two cable connections to the screen. Fortunately, they are
both polarized, so you can't connect them wrong.
B) You will *not* need to remove the lid from the keyboard assembly.
Doing that would complicate the job immensely.
C) The entire procedure takes about 1/2 hour start to finish. It's
really no big deal.
D) Replacement screens are available from eBay in the $30 - $60 range,
depending on 770 model. You need only the basic screen assembly, not
the bezel or cables, much less the entire lid.
E) Most "screen problems" are actually caused by a bad inverter board.
The inverter board is *not* part of the screen assembly. I covered
replacing a bad inverter in an earlier post.
Good luck!
