i'd beg to differ:
peter@gonzo peter $ uname -r
2.5.72-mm3
peter@gonzo peter $ dmesg | grep radeonfb
radeonfb_pci_register BEGIN
radeonfb: ref_clk=3D2700, ref_div=3D12, xclk=3D18300 from BIOS
radeonfb: probed DDR SGRAM 16384k videoram
radeonfb: panel ID string: 1024x768
radeonfb: detected DFP panel size from BIOS: 1024x768
radeonfb: ATI Radeon M7 LW DDR SGRAM 16 MB
radeonfb: DVI port LCD monitor connected
radeonfb: CRT port no monitor connected
radeonfb_pci_register END
peter@gonzo peter $=20
i've got a mobility 7500 though. perhaps this makes the difference...
try using the -mm patchset if vanilla 2.5.x doesn't work maybe?
