Exact numbers are hard to come by, but from the trade press I thought
the OEM price for an MS (non-server) OS was much less than the retail
price. I thought it was in the range of $50-70. I realize some people
feel one penny is too much to pay. I find it handy to have Windows
available to test Java programs, to see how web pages look in IE, etc.
I figure it will pay for itself over the life of the ThinkPad.

What happened when you tried Pam Huntley's suggestion?
"It's my understanding that if you call up a sales rep and talk to
the them, you can buy a model with a "DOS Entitlement Certificate" (or
something like that), although it doesn't come pre-installed. It's not
on the website, but I know they do this for special bids and I was told
it should be available for anyone. Of course, that's just word of
mouth, but it's worth a shot."
At least meet IBM halfway and *try* to order. :-)
