The new T40's I've had the chance to play with have EXCELLENT battery life.
If you get the extended life battery, I think the battery life is somewhere
around 6 hours (I just checked the website, it says 7 hours).  That is, of
course, with dimming the screen and slowing the CPU etc.   If you get the
extended battery as well as an ultrabay battery, supposedly you can get
almost 9 hours of battery life, although I personally haven't had the
chance to check it out.

My new T30 I just got at work has much better battery life than my old T23
did.  I sit through 2 and 3 hour meetings (of course doing email the whole
time  ;-)  and I haven't had it give out on me yet.
