No, newer versions of lm-sensors won't start on a Thinkpad. Also IBM does not 
use the same buggy componentes anymore and all the functions of lmsensors do 
not work anyways on IBM Thinkpads. 

You should rather try to get ACPI running, which provides pretty much the same 
information in /proc/acpi/
