I absolutely agree!
My company provided machine is a Compaq Armada with a touchpad and I
can't stand it. At one time another coworker bought a glide point that
was an external touchpad. Having it external is something I could live
with, but not in the middle of the wrist rest where a clumsy non-touch
typist like me is constantly dragging my thumb over the accursed thing.
I have used older two-button Thinkpads for several years and found the
Trackpoint to be very workable and that experience figured heavily into
my purchase of a TP-390E earlier this year. Running a Trackpoint is
easily a on handed operation while the #$%#$#!! touchpad on that Armada
usually requires two hands for drag and drop and like operations.
