Wait, doesn't this means you do have DMA enabled?

That said, it's true that 6,8Mb/s is slow. I don't have the same drive,
so I can't really compare, but with my 40Gb (not the same manufacter I
think, but also on a T40/ Gentoo/ 2.6.0-test9-mm1), reading is more
like 21Mb/s.

Maybe this "acoustic management" slow down things (I don't have this
in my hdparm output).

Also, I don't have all this "SMART" feature, and I think it is because
I've not configured the "local apic" in the kernel. Don't know if it is
good or bad.

Could you send "hdparm /dev/hda" and "hdparm -i /dev/hda"? They are
easier to read, maybe something will then show up.
