To get sound on a thinkpad 600x to work right, you need to use alsa.  
OSS sound works, but it is delayed about a second.
The alsa card you are looking for is cs46xx.

While running alsa, you will need to make sure you unload on suspend, 
and reload on resume the alsa modules, otherwise they will stop working.
