I'm satisfied with SuSE 9.0 dual boot on the T40.  SuSE supports more devices 
out of the box than XP, with the evident exception of the wireless, which I 
don't have much use for.  I had no luck with the suggested 3D video driver 
installation procedure, but adjusting the monitor selection brought 2D video 
to full function.  Haven't tested dial-up yet, no one I want to dial to 
accepts linux connections.
