[ltp] Sound problems on the 390E and 390X

Has anyone gotten the sound on a 390X to work ( .wav & .mid ) ?
It's somewhat hard to do on the 390E but I've had very little joy on the 
390X.
Linux does put the I/O ports at different locations between the E & X
and I don't know why.
Then too, how do you turn off the plug and play bios on a 390...?
Has anyone had any luck with either the OSS or Alsa drivers?
I've Googled this to death and all that I can find is others with the 
same problem.
