Have the latest BIOS installed, it doesn't top up the battery as often 
so your new battery will last longer.  If you go for long periods 
without needing the battery you can remove it (make sure it is charged 
first) and store it in a cool place.

Not that I can see, unless you want maximum time on battery.  But you 
can also buy an external battery pack and get even longer run times.  I 
think the Ultraslimbay battery has less capacity than the main battery, 
so with it you get less than double run time.  The 600E originally came 
with a 3.2 amp-hour battery, but some new replacments are now rated 3.6 
amp-hour.

Big enough to hold the hibernation file, about the size of your RAM.  I 
made mine RAM+5MB and installed MSDOS, PS2.EXE, and and few other things 
there.

I think the BIOS can only find the hibernation file if it is on a 
primary partition.  To play it safe I used the first primary partition.
