Thank you Fabrice!
Your version of memtest86 works fine on my T40, recognizes L1
and L2 caches and sees all the RAM.
(Un)fortunately, all 8 tests passed in a 10-pass test run that
lasted about 14 hours.
However, I heard of a tool called 'memtester', which also tests
memory, but it is run from within the OS (e.g. from the command
line on UNIX). I run it this morning and found a few errors
that look like this:
Test 12: Checkerboard: Setting...
FAILURE: 0x55555555 != 0x5555aa55 at offset 0x0216e241.
Skipping to next test...
Test 13: Bit Spread: Setting...Passed.
Test 14: Bit Flip: Setting...
FAILURE: 0x00000008 != 0x0000ff08 at offset 0x02369971.
Skipping to next test...
Test 15: Walking Ones: Setting...
FAILURE: 0x00200000 != 0x00100000 at offset 0x039594a1.
Skipping to next test...
Test 16: Walking Zeroes: Setting...Passed.
Run 1 completed in 1221 seconds (3 tests showed errors).
munlock'ed memory.
1 runs completed. 3 errors detected. Total runtime: 1221
seconds.
Looks like gibberish.....but it shows errors, and that's good
enough, I guess.
Otis
