If you're having problems getting the PCMCIA drive recognized by the
installer, you might want to see if you can borrow a USB CDROM drive
instead.
I've had no problems installing Red Hat 8 and 9 from a USB CDRW drive.
It's not the fastest thing in the world, but it works reliably!
(Am I correct in assuming that SuSE's install floppies come with support
for USB storage devices?)
