My advice is to not accept anybody else's recommendation without a good 
explanation.  You should really choose for yourself.  A good place to 
start is www.distrowatch.com.  In particular check out the major 
distributions page.  As I see it you have kind of a spectrum.  On one 
end you have easy to use, and on the other end you have more in depth 
learning required.  What distribution you choose depends on what you 
want to get out of it.  If you want more of my humble opinions of each 
distribution, I'll be happy to provide the boring detials.  Just ask.
