Unfortunately, it's a mixed bag.  I've found that the XFree driver is
more stable and often faster, but is intolerably slow for some
operations which I perform frequently and also incorrectly renders a
complicated dataset that I have.  The ATI drivers don't suffer from the
latter problems, but introduce their own.
