[ Following up on the messages re mini-PCI wireless cards in the R40. ]
I bought the Cisco card from IBM for use in my R40. After moving some
files around as described in Ted T'so's T40 page, I was able to build an
mpi350 module that seems to work pretty well. I have occasional problems,
but I'm not sure whether they are due to the driver, or to Cisco's GUI
control software, which is shall we say a bit rough around the edges.
The biggest obstacle I had was that entering a WEP key in the "home
networking" environment tab of the Cisco ACU software just didn't work.
The software reports that the card has associated with the access point,
but there's no data flow. In the "home" environment you cannot use the CEM
password manager. Changing over to the "enterprise" environment let me use
the CEM program to enter a password, but you must enter it in hex, not
ASCII. Once I got past that, I've had good luck. You also need to modify
your startup routine to run the program ("bsetup"?) that loads the card
params at boot time.
I would like to use the other driver that provides an interface to the
standard wireless tools, but I haven't yet figured out just what you need
to do in order to make that work, or how reliable the end result will be.
