This has nothing to do with IBM.  It has everything to do with XFree86
development.  The fact that you have to jump through hoops in order to
get multiple mice to work together with X is fundamentally part of how
XFree86 is architected, and is true for any laptop from any
manufacturer.

XFree86 is all open source.  The whole point of open source is that it
means you have the source code.  You can fix it yourself, and send the
patch to the XFree86 developers(*).  It's just that so many people
like to whine instead....

(*) Yes, there is the problem that XFree86 doesn't have an open CVS
tree, and has other problems which stifle development, but that's a
different issue.  Furthermore, it's in the process of being fixed via
a code fork, courtesy of Xouvert.org and freedesktop.org....  Either
XFree86 will become more responsive, or it will die, and Xouvert and
Freedesktop.org will take over....
