[ltp] Thinkpad 600E Alsa configuration

Has anyone actually made this work under anything but red hat? I've been 
fighting with it now for a little over a month.  All of my config files are 
posted http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=159229 under that thread I 
can report them here. Bottomline, when I run amixer it says I don't have any 
sound cards installed when I actually do after having followed Gentoo's own 
alsa configuration howto and alsa's config howto.

I'm just about ready to throw in the towel but I hate leaving things 
unsolved =x
