On my T41, the "Restore Factory Defaults" function (from the
"pre-desktop are") installed Windows on the first partition, not the
whole disk.  I used this to get a minimal Windows partition before
installing Linux.

I would guess that the CDs will do the same thing, but you should of
course backup your disk before experimenting.
