[ltp] Cooling fan always running

I have a Ibm Thinkpad R50 running Fedora Core 2 with custom kernel
2.6.8.1.

The always-running fan on my left hand side is irritating and i'm
wondering if its supposed to run all the time.

Is there eventually any tool/daemons who can switch it off when my
system is cool enough. The air coming out of the fan is not hot at all
and the machine isnt hot either. Thats why i think that the fan may not
have to run contunously.
