Didn't know about that. From the kernels README it looks like, but they
aren't speaking about recompiling the same kernel specifically.

So, to be sure you might check the versions of other modules
in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/ using modinfo.

In case you'd have had to do a make modules first it explains your case,
since then make modules_install would have installed your old modules
again.
