Before i came to ThinkPads i had a Portege 300CT for fun mostly, which
had about the same power (but was much more cute ;-) ). With WindowMaker
and GTK1.2-only apps you could get along pretty well with it. But
finally the bottleneck of these old machines is the low amount of memory
you can feed them with.
