Hi Nils,
I'm on Debian/Sid 2.6.9 on a R50 too. I was using fglrx for noise
consideration too. But i'm back on the radeon driver !!! It is not noisy
at all now. I don't know what as changed (i've not updated my bios, only
official sid packages)
To answer your question, I had the same problem. My solution was to go
back to the radeon driver ;-)
