I use gentoo an in my /etc/modules.d/alsa is the following info:

##  ALSA portion
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias snd-card-1 snd-intel8x0m

and at the end

# Set this to the correct number of cards.
options snd cards_limit=3D2

this way I cand have simultaneously the modem and the alsa card.
