I have a Xircom 56k PCMCIA modem in my i1200 which works fine with KPPP -
when it gets through. However, initialisation is a very slow process and
usually fails.
What I get in KPPP's on-screen log when I hit 'connect' is a random selection
of bits of AT commands, the Xircom modem's identifier string, and sometimes
just garbage.
Using KPPP's 'Query modem' function returns, in the ATI registers, random
fragments of 'OK' and AT commands, or sometimes the modem's identifier
string.
On the one occasion in 10 when it does dial, everything works faultlessly.
Can anyone suggest where I should start looking for the problem?
One other question - is it normal for a modem card to get quite hot in use?
Thanks
