[ltp] xosd not showing after reinstall

After a bad crash I am slowly rebuilding my Debian sid system.

For reasons I do not understand the onscreen characters (e.g. the blue 
volume bar) do not appear anymore.

The buttons work fine even if the onscreen does not appear.

In the README for the Debian packages there is something about fonts and 
locale I do not understand very well.
