I would never use a non-Linux native program to resize Linux
partitions. Partition Magic has successfully resized my Windows
partitions to make room to create Linux partitions, but I did the
partitioning for the Linux installation during the distribution's
installer (SuSE and Fedora Core).

In Linux, I add my disks to Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and format
with ReiserFS for easy resizing if need be. The tools are available
under Linux to avoid complications and data loss, I see fit to use
them whenever possible. This is all stupidly easy under SuSE 9.2,
which I consider the most polished distribution after 10 years of
installing Linux on various platforms :).
