Well, I'm not an expert but I do use ReiserFS (and a bunch of other
filesystems). Right now, I've got:
minix:
/dev/loop0 on /mnt/auto/schedules type minix (rw)
ext2:
/dev/hda5 on /mnt/old type ext2 (ro,nodev)
/dev/hda7 on /home type ext2 (rw,nodev)
/dev/hda8 on /var/spool/news type ext2 (rw,noatime)
/dev/hda9 on /mnt/auto/src type ext2 (rw)
ext3:
/dev/hda3 on / type ext3 (rw)
/dev/hda6 on /usr type ext3 (rw)
reiserfs:
/dev/hda10 on /export type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/hda11 on /mnt/auto/dvd2b type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/hda12 on /mnt/auto/scratch type reiserfs (rw)
One of these days I'll convert /var/spool/news, but as it's only me using
it, it's not a high-priority item. Journalling would be nice.
Sharing files via Samba is easy though; I run W2K in VMware, and it mounts
its D: drive (where all its applications are stored) via Samba.
